Oracle® E-Business Suite & Cloud Applications
Configuration Automation and Control

Reduce Time - Reduce Errors - Reduce Cost - Reduce Risk

The Challenge:

As well as understanding the current setup of your application environments there are several requirements to be able to track changes to them over time. During projects there are many reasons to need to understand changes made during key stages of the work, including:

  • Being able to identify all records created, updated or deleted so that changes can be accurately repeated
  • Understanding the impact of change on an environment introduced by activities such as patching or upgrades
  • Determining whether an issue has been caused by an unexpected change
  • Determining whether changes during a test cycle have been made that have unknowingly introduced an issue

During ongoing system management security settings should be tracked to ensure changes do not result in unauthorised access. This requirement covers many areas, including:

  • User, responsibility and role management
  • Menu changes
  • Profile option settings
  • Request group and request set management

As part of a comprehensive audit and control process there are also key setups where you may wish to capture any change as it happens, including full details of what was changed, when and who made the change. The built-in solutions of the E-Business Suite and Cloud Applications for audit are cumbersome to manage and provide poor reporting options.

How ConfigSnapshot Helps:

ConfigSnapshot provides comprehensive baseline capabilities that can capture set up at a specific point in time; a baseline can cover a single setup step, a module’s entire setup or be across multiple modules. Reporting can subsequently be carried out against the historic data and comparisons can be carried out between different baselines or between baselines and the current environment data. This allows for clear understanding of change between the two points.

Even where a baseline has not been created ConfigSnapshot can use standard Oracle history fields to report data created or last updated since a particular date and/or by one or more specific users.

In circumstances where you require capturing every change to critical setups as they happen ConfigSnapshot has the ability to provide full audit tracking. Whenever a change is made ConfigSnapshot will capture details of what the change was, when it was made and who made it. Changes are captured whether they are made through the application or via database tools; in the latter case details of the terminal and IP address where the change was made are also captured.

"We used ConfigSnapshot as part of the integration of two R12 instances as part of a merger and it proved to be a valuable tool throughout the project. The ability to quickly document and compare between multiples instances was central to ensuring the project progressed on schedule through to Go-Live - despite the substantial levels of new configuration required. On completion of the project, we were also able to very quickly produce the required documentation for auditors of all configuration changes made - saving significant amounts of time. We would definitely recommend the product."
